Yes you can.
‚pHow many tournament do you attend?
About 4. In the summer we attend Toitai tournament, this year at Odawara, as well as Kanto Ikashika regional tournament ,Chiba city tournament, Wado-ryu tournament of Chiba prefecture and other smaller tournaments. You can attend all the tournaments if you wish to.
‚pThey say karate is painful. Is that true?
No. Wado-ryu is non-contact karate for self-defense. Targets are specified. You have to withdraw your fist before actually striking that target. Speed, Timing and mastery of technique is more important than simple power in gaining a point. So the characteristic of this sports is similar to Kendo rather than boxing. Of course, sometimes you may take a blow during fighting with hot-blooded but a bit careless fellow. But your helmet will protect you very well.
‚pI have no previous experience in Karate. Can I keep up with the training ?
It does not matter whether you have experience in karate or not. Half of the members started karate after entering the university. I had never even seen someone exercising karate before I opened the door of the gym when I was a freshman. I think karate is good for those who love challenge and are willing to enjoy new experience. This is not because I happen to join this club because, actually Ifm not good at sports. But I love practicing karate.
